Principal Software Engineer, AWS & TypeScript
Overview
You will own the architecture of Aderant Talent, a greenfield platform on AWS with a TypeScript/Node and Go backend over MongoDB and a React front end. Your designs will shape how the whole team builds, with organization-wide influence. You will work with pod-based teams and set standards that are still cheap to change. This role combines deep technical leadership with hands-on engineering, embedding AI into evaluation and staffing workflows.
What You'll Do10
- 1Own end-to-end architecture: service decomposition, API strategy, and platform foundations using TypeScript/Node, Go, and React.
- 2Design the MongoDB data architecture: document modeling, indexing, schema evolution, and tenant isolation.
- 3Build the migration and coexistence strategy from legacy vi products, covering data migration and phased transitions.
- 4Set technical strategy for AI-enabled features: model selection, prompt design, output evaluation, cost, latency, and guardrails.
- 5Architect for configurability without fragmenting the codebase, using Kubernetes and AWS services.
- 6Define data privacy and access control: role-based permissions, record-level security, and auditability.
- 7Ship production code in TypeScript/Node, Go, and React every week, including aggregation pipelines for reporting.
- 8Integrate with enterprise systems: Workday, OAuth 2.0, SSO, and directory providers via REST and gRPC.
- 9Build LLM-backed capabilities like evaluation drafting and sentiment analysis, with evaluation harnesses.
- 10Engineer event-driven workflows using SQS, Step Functions, Lambda, and change streams.
Requirements13
- 110+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years at staff or principal level.
- 2Owned architecture of a production SaaS product at scale, living with decisions over multiple years.
- 3Experience taking a new platform from design to production.
- 4Built software handling sensitive personal data under compliance obligations.
- 5Expert-level TypeScript and Node for production services, including async failure modes and performance.
- 6Deep MongoDB expertise: document modeling, indexing, aggregation, transactions, change streams, and operations.
- 7Strong React and deep API design across REST and gRPC.
- 8Practical experience building LLM-backed features: prompt engineering, retrieval, structured output, and evaluation.
- 9Enterprise integration: SOAP, REST, OAuth 2.0, webhooks, batch and delta sync.
- 10Multi-tenant SaaS architecture and zero-downtime deployment.
- 11AWS proficiency: EKS or ECS/Fargate, Lambda, MongoDB Atlas, S3, EventBridge, SQS, Step Functions, API Gateway, IAM, Secrets Manager, and Bedrock.
- 12Infrastructure as code, CI/CD, Kubernetes at scale (Terraform, GitHub Actions, GitOps), and observability.
- 13Application security: authorization models, OWASP risks, data protection, secure SDLC.
