What You'll Do12

  • 1Drive architecture-level safety decisions across robotic platforms balancing performance and compliance
  • 2Create and maintain safety deliverables including risk assessments and FMEDA documents
  • 3Collaborate with hardware software controls perception and systems engineering teams
  • 4Support customer deployments through remote collaboration and on-site integration
  • 5Oversee third-party vendor and lab verification for CE marking and regulatory certifications
  • 6Design functional safety architecture for AI and ML features ensuring defined safety limits
  • 7Communicate safety strategy and risks to technical and non-technical audiences
  • 8Monitor evolving regulatory landscape and evolve internal safety processes
  • 9Partner with engineering leadership to shape safety strategy across product portfolio
  • 10Mentor engineers within the functional safety team to grow technical depth
  • 11Represent Agility's safety perspective in external technical forums
  • 12Coordinate compliance with electrical safety hazardous materials and environmental regulations

Requirements15

  • 1BS in Robotics Mechatronics Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 212+ years in robotics or safety-critical engineering with 7+ years focused on functional safety
  • 3Proven expertise in traditional risk reduction and hierarchy of controls
  • 4Deep familiarity with ISO 13849 IEC 61508 and ANSI/RIA R15.08 standards
  • 5Experience managing third-party vendors or labs for V&V activities
  • 6Hands-on experience with safety design for mobile dynamic or collaborative robots
  • 7Ability to coordinate across engineering teams to define and validate safety requirements
  • 8Familiarity with SISTEMA safety analysis tools
  • 9Strong written and verbal communication skills advocating for safety
  • 10Bonus points for TUV Functional Safety Engineer certification
  • 11Experience with safety firmware fault handling and safe-state logic
  • 12Prior involvement in CE marking and regulatory certifications
  • 13Knowledge of SOTIF ISO/IEC TS 22440 and uncertainty quantification in AI systems
  • 14Advanced degree in Robotics Mechatronics Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 15Curiosity about safety challenges in dynamically stable legged systems
