Prep Cook & Food Stylist (Hand Model) – Austin
Overview
You will own the kitchen studio at October Creative, preparing and styling food-centric video content for bloggers and brands in Austin. Your hands and forearms will appear on screen as you cook, plate, and clean multiple recipes daily, collaborating with a cinematographer to keep the space creative and efficient. This part-time role pays $17-$25 per hour and requires maintaining hand condition, with tattoos coverable by makeup. You'll join a growing team that values adaptability, artistry, and detail, with opportunities to shape how recipes are told visually.
What You'll Do8
- 1Cook and bake a wide variety of recipes daily, from prep to final plating.
- 2Style and plate each dish to match the client's aesthetic, ensuring visual appeal on camera.
- 3Clean and maintain the studio kitchen, managing ingredient prep and cleanup between takes.
- 4Adapt recipes on the fly to solve issues like texture, color, or timing for successful shoots.
- 5Model your hands and forearms in recipe videos, following direction from the cinematographer.
- 6Assist video production tasks when needed, such as setting up props or adjusting lighting.
- 7Procure groceries and manage inventory to keep the studio stocked for scheduled shoots.
- 8Collaborate with the creative team to evolve the studio space and workflow as projects change.
Requirements9
- 12+ years of cooking and baking experience, including your own kitchen practice.
- 2Proven knife skills for efficient prep of fruits, vegetables, and proteins.
- 3Demonstrated ability to follow recipes accurately and adjust for consistency.
- 4Strong attention to detail for plating, hand positioning, and food styling.
- 5Comfortable appearing on camera with hands and forearms; tattoos must be coverable with makeup.
- 6Self-motivated with critical self-review to improve recipe outcomes.
- 7Collaborative mindset with receptiveness to creative direction.
- 8High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 9Must attach a photo or video of your hands and any tattoos with your resume.
