Physician Assistant - General Surgery
Overview
You will manage patients across the office, hospital, ED, and perioperative settings at Kaiser Permanente in San Francisco, CA. You will first assist in surgeries, perform procedures, and handle on-call duties under a supervising physician. You will work with a team of surgeons and nurses in a high-acuity General Surgery unit. What You'll Do10
- 1Examine patients, perform comprehensive physical exams, and compile medical data including health history and physical findings.
- 2Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as imaging studies, EKGs, and lab tests to detect deviations from normal.
- 3Perform therapeutic procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
- 4Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and ensure continuity of care.
- 5Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges while dictating summaries in a timely manner.
- 6First assist in surgical procedures and perform other department-specific procedures consistent with care standards.
- 7Round on inpatients and manage post-operative care, including entering orders and reviewing vital signs and labs.
- 8Educate patients and families on pre-operative and post-operative instructions, recovery, and risk factor modification.
- 9Review patient charts for allergies, medical history, and abnormal findings prior to procedures.
- 10Manage on-call responsibilities and adapt to varying department needs, including evening or weekend shifts.
Requirements7
- 1Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program by start date.
- 2Physician Assistant License (California) required at hire.
- 3Physician Assistant National Certificate required at hire.
- 4Basic Life Support and National Provider Identifier required at hire.
- 5Fluoroscopy Permit required, or obtain within 18 months for Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology.
- 6Robotics experience preferred, with competency in specific department tasks.
- 7Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Salary Insight
