Pharmacy Technician I, Retail & Ambulatory Pharmacy
Overview
You will own prescription processing, inventory control, and patient medication delivery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, supporting a high-volume retail pharmacy with 40-hour weekly shifts. You will work under the direct supervision of a Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, partnering with pharmacists to ensure safe, accurate dispensing across all patient care areas. This role offers hands-on experience with automated pharmacy technology and specialized systems like Epic, PioneerRx, and ParataMax. You will be the front-line contact for patients and clinicians, directly impacting medication safety and care quality.
What You'll Do9
- 1Process prescription orders under pharmacist supervision, retrieving, counting, and preparing medications, solutions, and ointments in timely manner.
- 2Assist with third-party transactions, including completing required documentation for insurance claims.
- 3Deliver patient-specific medications to appropriate units, ensuring correct medication and timing via packing, tracking, and order management.
- 4Obtain and verify patient information for new prescriptions and medication reconciliation, complying with Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy regulations.
- 5Refer clinical questions from clinicians and customers to a pharmacist promptly.
- 6Maintain accurate prescription files, logs, and records per legal standards.
- 7Keep all pharmacy areas clean and stocked, adhering to department policies.
- 8Adapt to changing departmental needs, including floating to other areas and supporting team members.
- 9Assist with patient support program enrollments when applicable.
Requirements8
- 1High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 2Active state certification with Board of Pharmacy in Massachusetts.
- 30-1 years related work experience required.
- 4Proficiency with computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access).
- 5Ability to build strong relationships with diverse clinical and administrative teams.
- 6National Certification via PTCB or ExCPT preferred.
- 7Knowledge of Epic, PioneerRx, and ParataMax preferred.
- 8Previous experience with quality assurance preferred.
