Peptide Upstream Scientist, Process Translation
Overview
You will own the transfer of peptide upstream manufacturing processes from development to pilot plant, ensuring clinical supply readiness for the new Lilly Medicine Foundry. You will execute SPPS and cleavage and precipitation procedures, evaluate safety, and prepare documentation. Working with process engineers, analytical chemists, and safety teams, you will drive right-first-time manufacturing. This role stands out for its early impact in a $4.5B greenfield facility, offering unmatched growth during the startup phase.
What You'll Do9
- 1Execute transfer of peptide upstream processes from lab to kilo-scale, including SPPS and cleavage and precipitation.
- 2Assess synthetic routes and procedures from R&D, collaborating with safety and process engineering.
- 3Perform familiarization runs and definitive lab trials to confirm plant readiness at the Lilly Medicine Foundry.
- 4Order and stage chemicals, obtain reference materials, and set up analytical methods.
- 5Analyze data from HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, and GC to make fact-based decisions.
- 6Author and review technical documents: tech transfer plans, SOPs, batch records, and deviation reports.
- 7Drive process improvements by implementing new technologies and troubleshooting issues.
- 8Support root cause analysis and CAPAs for quality events and non-conformances.
- 9Maintain detailed lab notebooks for accurate replication and technical package preparation.
Requirements10
- 1B.S. or M.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
- 23+ years in peptide chemistry and/or manufacturing environments with synthetic peptide API.
- 3Solid phase peptide synthesis experience required.
- 4Working knowledge of peptide chemistry and mechanisms for reaction optimization.
- 5Experience scaling up chemical reactions using synthetic chemistry techniques.
- 6Proficiency in peptide crude synthesis via SPPS and cleavage/deprotection.
- 7Comfortable with large glass equipment and kilo-scale operations.
- 8Skilled in analytical techniques: HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, GC, NMR.
- 9Proven ability to analyze data, perform root cause analysis, and resolve technical challenges.
- 10Excellent written and verbal communication for reports and cross-functional collaboration.
