Overview

As a Patient Care Technician at Fresenius Medical Care, you will own safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients in Los Angeles. What You'll Do10

  • 1Welcome patients, evaluate vascular access for patency, and perform cannulation and heparin administration as delegated.
  • 2Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders, including blood flow and dialysate flow, and program Ultrafiltration (UF) goals.
  • 3Monitor patients' response to therapy, evaluate intradialytic problems, and intervene as directed.
  • 4Discontinue dialysis treatment, obtain hemostasis, apply dressings, and evaluate patients prior to discharge.
  • 5Record vital signs, treatment parameters, and patient status accurately on the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
  • 6Conduct machine safety checks, including Pressure Holding (PHT) tests, and ensure alarm systems like Narrow Venous Limits (NVL) are enabled.
  • 7Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies efficiently to prevent wastage and ensure a safe, clean environment.
  • 8Collect, label, and prepare lab specimens for transport, and ensure proper infection control practices.
  • 9Assist in training new staff and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
  • 10Support patients in the Transitional Care Unit (TCU), including education on treatment options and home dialysis.

Requirements8

  • 1High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2Must meet CMS-approved state/national certification requirements within the required timeline.
  • 3Previous patient care experience in a hospital or related facility preferred.
  • 4Successful completion of the organization dialysis training program and CPR certification.
  • 5Ability to pass Ishihara's Color Blindness Test (or reasonable accommodation).
  • 6Ability to stand for prolonged periods, bend, push/pull up to 15 lbs, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • 7Willingness to travel between assigned facilities and attend regional meetings.
  • 8Demonstrated commitment to organizational culture and customer service standards.
