We seek skilled professionals to lead development of BioJupyter platform at UC Berkeley. This role drives interdisciplinary data science innovation through open source software engineering. The ideal candidate thrives in collaborative environments focused on AI-powered biomedical research.
What You'll Do11
- 1Design and implement complex interface solutions using advanced software concepts
- 2Maintain and sustain 1-4 scientific open source projects through issue triage and CI processes
- 3Develop project plans and deliver allocated tasks within interdisciplinary teams
- 4Analyze complex open source software and formulate algorithms for modular systems
- 5Enable collaborators to design reproducible data analyses across multi-modal pipelines
- 6Stay current with agentic AI research and security practices for scientific applications
- 7Prepare documentation and approve technical specifications for software development
- 8Serve as technical lead for software projects with moderate to broad scope
- 9Advance UC Berkeley's Open Source Program Office initiatives and mentorship programs
- 10Deliver trainings and technical mentorship to OSPO network members
- 11Coordinate with researchers to translate computational needs into scalable solutions
Requirements11
- 1Advanced programming skills with Python expertise
- 2Experience with high-performance computing and workflow systems like SLURM, Docker, Kubernetes
- 3Proficiency in workflow tools such as Snakemake, CWL, Dask, Nextflow
- 4Version control with Git and continuous integration/deployment practices
- 5Demonstrated participation in open source communities with distributed decision-making
- 6Track record of managing requirements through transparent issue tracking systems
- 7Ability to structure and analyze complex multi-modal datasets
- 8Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- 9Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
- 10Experience with biomedical research software development
- 11Familiarity with Jupyter ecosystem and open source collaboration practices
Salary Insight
$102 - $190k per year
