
Occupational Therapist - Chicago Trauma Specialist
Overview
The Occupational Therapist leads trauma-informed services at HAI's Marjorie Kovler Center. This exempt part-time role requires a master's degree and Illinois licensure. The position involves direct clinical work with survivors of torture alongside supervisory and educational responsibilities.
What You'll Do10
- 1Deliver trauma-informed occupational therapy services to individuals and families affected by torture and forced displacement
- 2Conduct individual and group assessments and interventions on-site in community settings and virtually
- 3Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide holistic care for participants
- 4Maintain accurate clinical documentation following organizational and professional standards
- 5Supervise OT students and develop internal training programs aligned with AOTA guidelines
- 6Contribute to program development including clinical policy reviews and grant reporting
- 7Represent the center in local and national coalitions and community partnerships
- 8Provide education on occupational therapy roles in trauma recovery to staff volunteers and external partners
- 9Ensure compliance with ethical standards and licensing requirements
- 10Perform additional duties as assigned to support program and organizational objectives
Requirements11
- 1Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution
- 2Current Illinois occupational therapist licensure
- 3Minimum 3-4 years professional experience in occupational therapy with preference for trauma-informed community settings
- 4At least 2-3 years experience serving immigrant or refugee populations
- 5Proven experience supervising OT students in accordance with AOTA standards
- 6Familiarity with interpreter use in clinical settings and multilingual abilities
- 7Deep understanding of trauma-informed care principles and forced migration impacts
- 8Strong clinical reasoning and assessment skills for diverse populations
- 9Experience with electronic health records and Microsoft 365
- 10Ability to remain calm and solution-oriented in high-pressure situations
- 11Commitment to ethical practice and professional development
