Network Automation Engineer, L2/L3 Switching
Overview
Apex Systems seeks a Network Automation Engineer to own network design, implementation, and automation for enterprise infrastructure in Austin. You will architect and maintain Layer 2/Layer 3 switching fabrics, then build Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks. Collaborate with a team of engineers to improve reliability and scalability. This role is on-site, offering direct impact on network performance and automation strategy.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design Layer 2/Layer 3 switching architectures for campus and data center networks, ensuring high availability.
- 2Configure and deploy Cisco switches and routers, managing VLANs, STP, OSPF, and BGP.
- 3Build Python scripts to automate network configuration, validation, and reporting, reducing manual effort.
- 4Implement Ansible playbooks for consistent device provisioning and compliance checks.
- 5Troubleshoot complex network issues, analyzing packet captures and logs to resolve root causes.
- 6Collaborate with security teams to integrate firewall rules and update network policies.
- 7Optimize network performance by monitoring traffic patterns and adjusting routing protocols.
- 8Document network diagrams, runbooks, and automation scripts for operational readiness.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, focusing on Layer 2/Layer 3 switching.
- 23+ years with network automation using Python, Ansible, or Netmiko.
- 3Expertise in Cisco IOS and IOS-XE, including EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.
- 4Solid understanding of VLANs, STP, RSTP, and EtherChannel technologies.
- 5Proficiency with network monitoring tools like SolarWinds or PRTG.
- 6CCNP or CCIE certification is a strong plus.
- 7Experience with SDN and OpenFlow concepts is beneficial.
- 8On-site presence required in Austin, TX.
