NDT Inspector / Materials Testing Technician Job
Overview
You will own nondestructive testing operations at Bess MTI's Hayward laboratory, performing PT and MT inspections while cross-training in mechanical testing, metallography, and machining. You will work in a small team within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab, handling diverse industrial customer parts and test specimens. What You'll Do10
- 1Perform liquid penetrant testing and magnetic particle testing per applicable procedures and codes.
- 2Document inspection results and prepare accurate NDT reports.
- 3Maintain part identification and traceability for customer parts and specimens.
- 4Perform equipment checks and assist with maintenance of NDT equipment and consumables.
- 5Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- 6Assist with mechanical and materials testing, including tensile, Charpy impact, and hardness tests.
- 7Prepare metallographic specimens by sectioning, mounting, grinding, and polishing.
- 8Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
- 9Assist with fabrication and setup of test fixtures.
- 10Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Requirements10
- 1High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2Previous experience in NDT, inspection, machining, welding, or related field.
- 3Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on work with lab equipment.
- 4Ability to read technical procedures, specifications, and drawings.
- 5Ability to use basic precision measuring equipment.
- 6Ability to document work accurately.
- 7Ability to work independently and in a team.
- 8Willingness to cross-train in multiple lab disciplines.
- 9Meet applicable NDT vision requirements.
- 10PT Level II and MT Level II documented training strongly preferred.
