Microbiology Lab Technician - Houston, TX
Overview
Join the Food Microbiology Department as a Team member responsible for preparing media and supporting routine laboratory workflows. You will calculate and dispense media while maintaining strict aseptic techniques. This role involves quality assurance, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. What You'll Do19
- 1Calculate and weigh media components while performing dilution calculations
- 2Prepare and autoclave media following established SOPs
- 3Assign lot numbers and document results in the LIMS system
- 4Perform quality control checks on prepared media
- 5Store and distribute media according to usage requirements
- 6Demonstrate proficiency with balances pH meters and pipetting devices
- 7Asymptatically pour plates label and store samples appropriately
- 8Receive and scan client samples entering them into the LIMS database
- 9Maintain detailed sample records and dispose of biohazard waste responsibly
- 10Organize storage areas clean and disinfected
- 11Conduct batch processing within LIMS and transcribe data accurately
- 12Manage inventory levels and place kit orders as needed
- 13Clean and disinfect instruments microscopes and work surfaces regularly
- 14Follow biosafety guidelines and maintain sterile environments
- 15Assist with HACCP training and sample collection logistics
- 16Track temperature logs for all equipment
- 17File and organize documents promptly
- 18Participate in ongoing food safety training programs
- 19Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet operational goals
Requirements11
- 1Minimum 2 years laboratory experience preferred
- 2Valid driver’s license and ability to lift 50 pounds
- 3Bachelor’s degree or equivalent high school diploma
- 4Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- 5Strong written and verbal communication skills including Spanish
- 6Experience with Python AWS React Kubernetes
- 7Certified Professional Cloud Architect certification
- 83-5 years of relevant technical experience
- 9Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
- 10Flexibility for varying shift schedules
- 11Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance standards
Salary Insight
