Local Pier Driver CDL Class A
Overview
You'll drive local pier routes out of Elizabeth, NJ, moving port, rail, flatbed, and van loads daily or every other day. You'll haul for major ports like Maher, Red Hook, Global Bayonne, PNCT, APM Sealand, and NYCT Howland Hook. As part of a small family-owned fleet, you'll get daily home time, pet-friendly trucks, and a pay structure that splits fuel and load revenue 50/50 (1099) or 35% (W-2). We cover tolls and pay for your TWIC card if you need one.
What You'll Do7
- 1Drive local pier routes from Elizabeth, NJ, to ports including Maher, Red Hook, Global Bayonne, PNCT, APM Sealand, and NYCT Howland Hook.
- 2Haul port, rail, flatbed, and van loads, managing each delivery from pickup to drop-off.
- 3Coordinate with dispatch to meet appointment times, handling live (un)loads and waiting time at customer locations.
- 4Operate a CDL Class A vehicle with a clean record, following all safety and regulatory requirements.
- 5Track fuel costs and load payments, applying the agreed split percentage to your earnings.
- 6Maintain daily or every-other-day home time, planning routes to maximize efficiency.
- 7Communicate with the family-owned team on any issues or concerns, contributing to an open-door culture.
Requirements7
- 1CDL Class A license with 18+ months driving experience.
- 2Clean driving record.
- 3Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- 4Willingness to obtain TWIC card (company pays) if not already held.
- 5Ability to operate manual transmission (implied by truck driving).
- 6Comfort with port and rail yard environments.
- 7Flexibility for daily or every-other-day home time schedule.
