Overview
As Legal Counsel on the U.S. Legal Team, you will own high-impact litigation defending the sanctity of life, free speech, and religious freedom. You will lead civil actions under the First Amendment and 42 U.S.C. § 1983, partnering with states to defend pro-life laws. You will draft trial and appellate filings, argue motions, and represent clients in federal and state courts. This role sits within a national nonprofit law firm, collaborating with allied attorneys and media to shape legal precedent. Your work directly protects unborn babies and their mothers, making an immediate difference in the legal landscape.
What You'll Do10
- 1Litigate high-profile lawsuits defending unborn babies and their mothers, and represent pro-life advocates on the frontlines.
- 2Research new and pending cases, interview clients and witnesses, and build legal strategies.
- 3Draft complaints, motions, briefs, and other filings for state and federal courts, emphasizing constitutional claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983.
- 4Prepare and respond to written discovery, and conduct and defend depositions.
- 5Represent clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies, interpreting laws and rulings.
- 6Confer with colleagues to establish legal positions and verify case foundations.
- 7Partner with the Development team on speaking engagements and events to advance the mission.
- 8Review in-house contracts and advise allied attorneys on legal issues within your expertise.
- 9Network and build relationships with allied attorneys to expand impact.
- 10Drive cases from filing to resolution, ensuring every procedural step advances the client's cause.
Requirements8
- 1J.D. and active license in at least one US state bar.
- 2Capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction within one year.
- 31+ years of complex litigation experience, with preference for constitutional or civil rights cases.
- 4Demonstrated skill in drafting pleadings, motions, and appellate briefs for state and federal courts.
- 5Proficiency in managing discovery, including depositions and written discovery.
- 6Experience arguing motions and presenting cases in court.
- 7Strong legal research and writing skills, with attention to detail.
- 8Ability to work onsite in Lansdowne, VA; Dallas, TX; or Scottsdale, AZ.

$115 - $190k per year
