Lead Backend Engineer, Aviation AI Platform
Overview
Design and build the backend systems powering an AI platform for aviation safety, serving defense and airline partners. Own services, APIs, and data pipelines handling real-time and time-series data. Lead a small team of engineers in a fast-moving environment with no silos or heavy processes. This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, shipping mission-critical systems.
What You'll Do7
- 1Architect, build, and maintain backend services and distributed systems supporting mission-critical applications.
- 2Design and implement secure, scalable APIs for internal and external integrations, including real-time data streaming and web and mobile support.
- 3Build and optimize data pipelines for efficient ingestion, processing, and access to time-series and multimedia data.
- 4Own backend system reliability, performance, and scalability in production environments.
- 5Lead technical design discussions and contribute to code reviews and architectural decisions.
- 6Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend and cloud infrastructure issues to ensure high availability.
- 7Own backend features or systems from concept through delivery, working closely with product and cross-functional partners.
Requirements6
- 15+ years designing and implementing backend services, APIs, and distributed systems in production.
- 2Fluency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js).
- 3Proven experience building, scaling, and operating backend infrastructure.
- 4Strong ownership mindset, driving end-to-end systems and features from design through deployment.
- 5Ability to operate effectively in evolving environments while maintaining high standards for quality and reliability.
- 6Experience building or working with data pipelines and backend systems handling large-scale or real-time data.
Salary Insight
$185 - $260k per year
