Overview
This summer clerkship at Patterson Real Bird & Rasmussen LLP places you at the center of Tribal advocacy, working on active client files that shape the rights of Tribal Nations. What You'll Do6
- 1Work directly with attorneys on litigation and transactional matters, contributing to active client files from day one.
- 2Conduct legal research on Tribal sovereignty, jurisdiction, child welfare, and natural resources, producing high-quality memoranda and briefs.
- 3Draft motions, contracts, and other legal documents that support ongoing cases and client needs.
- 4Attend hearings, client meetings, negotiations, and internal strategy sessions to observe and participate in legal practice.
- 5Receive mentorship and feedback from attorneys who are leaders in Tribal law, shaping your professional growth.
- 6Contribute to projects that directly advance the firm’s mission of protecting Tribal rights and sovereignty.
Requirements7
- 1Completion of 2L year by Summer 2027
- 2Completion of Native American Law coursework prior to the start of the clerkship
- 3Strong legal research skills demonstrated through coursework or prior experience
- 4Excellent written and oral communication skills
- 5Demonstrated interest in practicing Tribal Law and Federal Indian Law
- 6Familiarity with Tribal communities, cultures, or governments is a plus
- 7Prior experience working with Native Nations or organizations serving Indigenous peoples is desired

$75 - $102k per year
