Overview
Land Surveyor / GIS Technician supports surveying, mapping, and land development projects through field surveys and GIS data management. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with office drafting, turning raw survey data into accurate deliverables for infrastructure, transportation, utility, and municipal projects. You will work alongside surveyors, engineers, and planners, using Leica and Topcon equipment for field collection. The position offers a blend of traditional surveying and modern GIS technology, with opportunities to grow in both areas.
What You'll Do10
- 1Conduct topographic, boundary, right-of-way, construction layout, and as-built surveys using Leica, Topcon, and GPS/GNSS equipment.
- 2Collect field data with UAV/drone technology and maintain precise field notes and documentation.
- 3Establish and verify survey control points and property boundaries for project accuracy.
- 4Create, update, and maintain GIS databases and spatial datasets in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- 5Produce maps, exhibits, and geospatial analyses for engineering and land development projects.
- 6Integrate survey, GPS, aerial imagery, LiDAR, and engineering data into GIS platforms.
- 7Prepare survey drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including topographic maps, boundary plats, and as-built plans.
- 8Research deeds, plats, easements, and land records to support boundary determinations.
- 9Assist with construction staking and project layout activities, ensuring accurate field placement.
- 10Maintain survey equipment and ensure proper calibration and functionality.
Requirements9
- 1Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, GIS, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 21-3 years of experience performing land surveying and field data collection.
- 3Proficiency with AutoCAD and survey drafting, including Civil 3D.
- 4Hands-on experience with Leica, Topcon, GPS/GNSS or similar surveying equipment.
- 5Experience with GIS software, preferably ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related platforms.
- 6Understanding of coordinate systems, geospatial datasets, and mapping principles.
- 7Ability to interpret survey records, plats, deeds, and legal descriptions.
- 8Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- 9High attention to detail and data accuracy.
