Lactation Consultant – New York Healthcare Organization
Overview
The organization seeks an experienced Lactation Consultant Registered Nurse to lead Mother-Baby and postpartum services on the night shift. The role involves direct lactation support, care plan development, patient education, and serving as a clinical resource for healthcare teams. Candidates must be BSN-prepared with an active New York State RN license and current IBCLC certification.
What You'll Do11
- 1Provide direct lactation assessment, education, and support to mother-baby dyads
- 2Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized lactation care plans
- 3Assist patients with breastfeeding techniques, positioning, latch, and milk supply concerns
- 4Facilitate prenatal and postpartum education while connecting families to outpatient resources
- 5Serve as a clinical resource for nurses physicians and hospital staff regarding lactation issues
- 6Design and deliver lactation orientation sessions for nursing and physician personnel
- 7Conduct assessments and improve lactation documentation practices
- 8Maintain compliance with Human Donor Milk policies and regulatory standards
- 9Participate in data collection for Baby-Friendly designation and quality initiatives
- 10Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address patient needs and improve outcomes
- 11Recognize clinical changes and initiate appropriate interventions
Requirements11
- 1Bachelor of Science in Nursing with active New York State RN license
- 2Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification through IBLCE
- 3Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
- 4Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification within 180 days of hire
- 5Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 180 days of hire
- 6Strong knowledge of breastfeeding and lactation management practices
- 7Proven experience in mother-baby postpartum labor and delivery units
- 8Previous lactation consulting experience in hospital settings
- 9Ability to perform variable 12-hour night shifts
- 10Physical stamina to stand or move for extended periods and lift equipment up to 50 pounds
- 11Excellent communication skills and sound clinical judgment
