Industrial Service Technician, HVAC & Refrigeration
Overview
You will diagnose and repair complex HVAC/R systems in industrial and commercial settings, handling everything from chillers to pressurization systems. You'll work directly with customers, dispatch, and a skilled team at Custom Air Products & Services, a Houston-based full-service HVAC company with over two decades of experience. This role offers hands-on variety, an on-call rotation, and the chance to grow within a safety-focused, team-oriented environment. Expect to be in the field 85% of the time, solving problems on systems up to 50 tons.
What You'll Do9
- 1Diagnose and repair heating, cooling, refrigeration, and ventilation systems in industrial environments, including HVAC units and chillers.
- 2Troubleshoot complex system failures, identify root causes, and implement lasting fixes for DX and chilled water systems.
- 3Calibrate systems to manufacturer specs and adjust VFDs and controls for optimal performance.
- 4Communicate with customers on issues and solutions, providing clear recommendations and documentation.
- 5Document each job with equipment details, test readings, and photos using mobile field service software.
- 6Coordinate with dispatch to manage your schedule and ensure timely completion of service calls.
- 7Travel to job sites and keep dispatch updated on delays or changes, maintaining a stocked and safe company vehicle.
- 8Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency service, covering nights and weekends as needed.
- 9Stay current on industry technologies through ongoing training, including on EPA standards and TWIC compliance.
Requirements9
- 13+ years of industrial HVAC service experience with DX, chilled water, and pressurization systems.
- 2Hold EPA Universal Certification and a TWIC Card (or ability to obtain).
- 3Experience with boilers, steam systems, and refrigeration equipment up to 50 tons.
- 4Proficiency with pneumatic and digital control systems and ability to read schematics.
- 5Knowledge of HASC or ISTC safety standards and protocols.
- 6Clean background, drug-free, and acceptable driving record.
- 7Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights in varied conditions.
- 8Strong customer communication and documentation skills with mobile software.
- 9Flexible schedule for on-call rotations and extended travel.
