Overview
You will own import shipment coordination for a high-volume logistics team in Chicago, handling customer service, data entry, and document processing from booking to delivery. You will bridge customers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and agencies like the FDA to ensure compliant, on-time clearance. Working with vendors, warehouse staff, and terminal operators, you will manage daily operations with precision. This role stands out for its hands-on involvement in the full import lifecycle, from customs filings to invoice approvals, and offers exposure to customs regulations and terminal systems like PierPass and PayCargo.
What You'll Do7
- 1Coordinate import shipments end-to-end, serving as the main contact for customers on shipment status and documentation.
- 2Enter data for U.S. Customs and other government agency filings, ensuring accuracy for smooth clearance.
- 3Process and audit shipping documents, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and packing lists, to flag discrepancies.
- 4Arrange drayage and trucking with vendors, coordinating pickup and delivery schedules to meet customer deadlines.
- 5Coordinate with warehouse staff for inbound deliveries, ensuring cargo is received and stored correctly.
- 6Approve vendor invoices for accuracy and generate customer invoices, reconciling charges for each shipment.
- 7Manage terminal payments through systems like PierPass and PayCargo, maintaining account balances and records.
Requirements7
- 1High School diploma required; college education or relevant logistics experience preferred.
- 21+ years experience in import coordination, customs brokerage, or freight forwarding (logistics background required).
- 3Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken) for customer and vendor interactions.
- 4Computer proficiency, including MS Excel and Tradepoint Alliance System (a plus).
- 5Ability to solve problems and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced import environment.
- 6Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills for managing shipment files and documents.
- 7Knowledge of customs regulations and FDA requirements (preferred).
