Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician
Overview
You will own field service for the Denver Metro / Central Front Range territory, repairing heavy construction equipment on site with a fully upfitted Peterbilt service truck that goes home nightly. The work spans every major OEM, with master-certified peers from Komatsu, Caterpillar, John Deere, and Volvo a phone call away. This field-first model eliminates shop commutes and keeps you working independently, backed by dealer-grade tooling and training. You are the face of the company at each jobsite, and your work directly keeps contractor crews operating. This role offers a rare employee ownership path and real advancement as the fleet expands.
What You'll Do10
- 1Diagnose and repair excavators, dozers, loaders, articulated trucks, and motor graders in the field using OEM software and schematics.
- 2Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, engine, aftertreatment, and brake systems to root cause, not parts swapping.
- 3Perform preventive maintenance including oil service, fluid sampling, undercarriage inspection, and wear measurement.
- 4Replace final drives, travel motors, pumps, cylinders, turbos, and injectors directly on site.
- 5Fabricate, weld, and cut as needed to complete repairs and restore equipment to safe operation.
- 6Function-test repairs under load before releasing machines, verifying full performance.
- 7Write clear work orders documenting findings, cause, correction, and parts used for accurate billing.
- 8Communicate repair findings and recommendations directly with customers at the jobsite.
- 9Manage your truck inventory, tooling, DOT compliance, and daily route with dispatch support.
- 10Support rebuilds, inspections, and equipment commissioning as scheduling allows.
Requirements9
- 13+ years of hands-on field service on heavy construction equipment, including dealer, independent, or rental fleet experience.
- 2Strong diagnostic ability on hydraulic and electrical systems, reading schematics and wiring diagrams.
- 3Diesel engine experience including modern emissions and aftertreatment systems.
- 4Comfort with OEM and aftermarket diagnostic software and laptop-based troubleshooting.
- 5Welding and basic fabrication skill for field repairs.
- 6Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; CDL preferred or supported.
- 7Ability to work independently and escalate appropriately.
- 8Professional communication skills with customers.
- 9Own hand tools; specialty tooling and truck-mounted equipment provided.
