Overview

You will own the Cross Country program for grades 6-8 at Riverdale Grade School, directing a program that shapes young athletes into disciplined runners and community leaders. You will manage all facets of the program, from training schedules to parent communication, and build a culture that emphasizes academic achievement and sportsmanship. This limited-term role offers a $3,651.80 starting stipend and the chance to impact a close-knit community. You will also develop an off-season program to sustain momentum year-round.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Own all aspects of the Cross Country program for grades 6-8, including practice plans, meet schedules, and athlete development.
  • 2Hire and supervise a staff of assistant coaches, setting clear expectations and fostering teamwork.
  • 3Communicate regularly with parents and families to build trust and keep them informed of progress and events.
  • 4Track the academic progress of every student-athlete and coordinate tutoring or support to maintain eligibility.
  • 5Encourage athletes to participate in other school sports and activities, promoting a well-rounded athletic culture.
  • 6Design and launch a off-season training program to keep runners engaged and improving between seasons.
  • 7Lead athletes in supporting other Riverdale athletic events, building school spirit and community pride.
  • 8Model high ethical and professional standards at all times, serving as a role model for young student-athletes.

Requirements8

  • 1OSAA Coaching Certification completed before employment.
  • 2NFHS/ASEP Certification completed before employment.
  • 3First Aid Card with CPR and AED training completed before employment.
  • 4Pass a district fingerprinting and criminal background check.
  • 5Prior experience coaching middle school or youth athletics.
  • 6Deep understanding of Cross Country training principles and race strategies.
  • 7Excellent communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and school staff.
  • 8Ability to foster an inclusive and supportive team environment.
