Field Service Technician Job at ABB (Remote)
Overview
You will own field service execution for electrical distribution equipment across the Central region, including startup, commissioning, and repair of Power Delivery systems. Working remote from Indianapolis, you'll join the Electrification Service Division and collaborate with a team of engineers and technicians. Your work ensures uptime for critical infrastructure, from LV and MV breakers to PLC controls. This role stands out for its high travel and direct customer impact.
What You'll Do6
- 1Schedule jobs and order materials via phone and email with internal and external customers, completing safety analysis and paperwork before work starts.
- 2Execute hands-on projects involving startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair of Power Delivery equipment including transformers, switchgear, OCBs, circuit breakers, busways, UPS, ATS, PLCs, and relays.
- 3Participate in outages alongside field engineers and contractors, often serving as lead site engineer or project manager.
- 4Write technical reports, secure quotations, and prepare job status, time, and expense reports on schedule.
- 5Comply with ABB HSE and ABB Way safety policies during all work activities.
- 6Communicate technical findings and project progress to customers and internal stakeholders.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, preferably Electrical or Mechanical, OR High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years of related field experience.
- 22+ years of field engineering experience or equivalent military service.
- 3Ability to handle and move circuit breakers and installed equipment weighing several hundred pounds.
- 4Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- 5Willingness to travel 75% of the time.
- 6Valid passport and driver's license.
- 7Preferred: knowledge of industrial customer base in the geographical area.
- 8Preferred: technical skills in testing LV and MV breakers, switchgear, relays, and transformers.
- 9Preferred: experience repairing and refurbishing LV and MV circuit breakers from OEMs like Siemens, GE, ABB, Square D, Multilin, and Switzer.
- 10Preferred: testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of medium voltage synchronous machines, excitation systems, and PLC control systems.
