Event Manager, Catering & Wedding Planning
Overview
You will own every event from first client call to final cleanup, managing 20+ weddings, corporate gatherings, and private parties each year with The Classic Catering People. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will work alongside a close-knit team of chefs, service staff, and coordinators to deliver exceptional culinary experiences. What You'll Do8
- 1Own the full event lifecycle, from client consultation and concept design to on-site execution and post-event follow-up, with 30+ events per season.
- 2Craft detailed proposals and timelines that turn client visions into reality, using Aisle Planner and Microsoft Office.
- 3Coordinate with chefs, vendors, and service staff to orchestrate seamless events, including plated dinners, buffets, and station receptions.
- 4Manage budgets up to $100K per event, tracking expenses and adjusting forecasts to meet profitability targets.
- 5Conduct site visits, manage venue layouts, and confirm all logistics with the Baltimore Convention Center and other venues.
- 6Act as the client's main point of contact, providing weekly updates and resolving concerns with immediate action.
- 7Enforce quality standards for food presentation, service timing, and guest experience, escalating any issues to the kitchen team.
- 8Troubleshoot on-site issues in real time, from last-minute guest count changes to vendor delays, ensuring smooth execution.
Requirements8
- 13+ years of event management experience, ideally in catering or hospitality, with a portfolio of 20+ successful events.
- 2Proven ability to plan and execute events from start to finish, coordinating multiple vendors and large guest counts.
- 3Strong organizational and time management skills, with a track record of managing 5+ simultaneous projects.
- 4Excellent verbal and written communication, with experience in client negotiations and contract management.
- 5Proficiency in event management software like Tripleseat or Caterease, plus standard office applications.
- 6Creative problem-solving with a keen eye for detail, able to design themes and decor that exceed client expectations.
- 7Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as event schedules require, with a flexible schedule.
- 8A Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or a related field is a plus, but equivalent experience is accepted.
