Overview

CHA seeks a dedicated Environmental Health Specialist to promote and protect public health within the county. This role plays a vital role in preventing disease and safeguarding community well-being through education, surveillance, consultation, and enforcement of state and local environmental health laws. The successful candidate will work closely with community partners and regulated facilities to evaluate environmental health conditions, conduct inspections and provide public education to ensure compliance with health regulations.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Perform routine sanitation inspections for FLI and CCSS programs
  • 2Manage permitting of facilities
  • 3Conduct complaint and outbreak investigations
  • 4Provide food safety education to community and permitted facilities
  • 5Assist with FDA Retail Program Standards within FLI program
  • 6Support public health emergencies and events as required
  • 7Inspect and permit TFE's Education/Experience
  • 8Maintain accurate files and public records

Requirements5

  • 1Graduation with a bachelor's or postgraduate degree from an academic program accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC)
  • 2At least one year of experience in environmental health practice
  • 3Valid North Carolina driver's license
  • 4Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification by the North Carolina Board of Registered Environmental Health Examiners
  • 5License maintained as REHS by the North Carolina Board of Registered Environmental Health Examiners within two years of registration
