Engineering Supervisor, Optimus Technicians
Overview
Lead a team of 20+ Engineering Technicians in the Humanoid AI Robot program, driving the build, repair, and sustainment of prototype robots and sub-systems. You'll own shift schedules, hands-on building, and documentation for the first iterations of Optimus. Oversee daily operations in a 24/7 environment, balancing technical challenges with team development. This role blends mechatronics leadership with direct involvement in testing and analysis, ideal for a self-starter who thrives on open-ended projects.
What You'll Do9
- 1Achieve daily, weekly, and monthly operational goals for the Optimus technician team, owning service, quality, and throughput metrics.
- 2Build and repair prototype humanoid robots with highly actuated and computationally dense systems, applying hands-on skills in mechatronics and industrial equipment.
- 3Create and manage efficient shift schedules for a 20+ person team operating in a 24/7 capacity, balancing coverage and skill mix.
- 4Drive continuous improvement by monitoring service trends and implementing changes to boost productivity and safety.
- 5Coach and develop technicians through regular feedback, fostering a positive team culture and technical growth.
- 6Manage budgets and business metrics, aligning daily activities with quality, cost, and revenue targets.
- 7Champion safety and efficiency in all operations, ensuring compliance with Tesla standards and processes.
- 8Document test results, repair procedures, and design feedback to support R&D iterations.
- 9Act as a technical escalation point for complex issues, collaborating with engineering teams to resolve failures.
Requirements7
- 15+ years leading teams in mechatronics, industrial, automotive, precision medical device, maintenance, or testing environments
- 23+ years supervising teams of 10+ technicians in a 24/7 operations setting
- 3Hands-on experience building and debugging electromechanical systems with embedded controllers and sensors
- 4Proven ability to create and manage shift schedules using Lean or other operational excellence techniques
- 5Strong analytical skills for root cause analysis and data-driven decision making
- 6Valid driver's license and ability to travel up to 75% for training or support
- 7Bachelor's Degree in engineering or equivalent experience; technical certification a plus
