Overview

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to bring experienced educators into a remote, hourly consulting role that helps train AI systems to understand real-world teaching and learning workflows. You'll apply your own classroom or instructional-design experience to create realistic scenarios, evaluate AI-generated responses, and provide structured feedback. The work spans K-12 and higher education, including special education, assessment, curriculum design, and educational technology. What sets this apart is the chance to shape how AI models reason about education — while earning $45–$60 per hour from anywhere.

What You'll Do5

  • 1Develop authentic educational scenarios and tasks based on your own professional experience — such as planning lessons, writing assessment items, grading with rubrics, designing interventions, creating IEPs, or giving student feedback.
  • 2Evaluate and compare AI-generated educational content against criteria like accuracy, alignment with standards (Common Core, NGSS, state or discipline frameworks), grade-level fit, and pedagogical soundness.
  • 3Build structured examples that capture how educators actually think through problems and make decisions.
  • 4Write clear, constructive feedback that helps improve the AI's performance on instructional and teaching tasks.
  • 5Work asynchronously with the research team to refine approaches and ensure quality.

Requirements5

  • 1At least 3 years of hands-on experience in education — whether that's teaching in K-12 or higher ed, designing curriculum or instruction, developing assessments, working in special education, tutoring, or a related field.
  • 2A teaching license, National Board Certification, or an advanced degree in education (MEd/EdD/PhD) or a subject-matter master's is preferred but not required.
  • 3A bachelor's degree in education or a relevant subject area.
  • 4Comfort using common classroom and instructional platforms such as Google Classroom, Canvas, PowerSchool, or other SIS, assessment, and curriculum tools.
  • 5Strong written communication and a keen eye for detail.

Who Should Apply

We're looking for educators who enjoy breaking down their expertise into clear, structured explanations and are comfortable critiquing AI outputs. You should be passionate about improving how AI understands pedagogy and be able to work independently and asynchronously. All education specialties and grade bands are welcome — whether you're a veteran teacher, an instructional designer, a school psychologist, or a curriculum specialist.
