Django Backend Lead, Big Data & Cloud
Overview
You will lead the backend team building systems that gather, store, and process large volumes of data for analysis. You will own the architecture and delivery of ETL pipelines and data storage solutions, working with Django, Python, AWS, and Azure. Your team of 5 engineers will report to you, and you will collaborate with data science and product teams. This contract role gives you the chance to drive technical design and mentor engineers in a high-scale environment.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead the design and development of ETL pipelines using Python and SQL to process large data volumes.
- 2Drive the implementation of cloud data tools such as AWS Glue and Azure Data Factory.
- 3Own data quality initiatives, ensuring accuracy and consistency across pipelines.
- 4Optimize data storage solutions, leveraging S3, Redshift, and Azure Blob.
- 5Mentor and guide a team of 5 backend engineers, reviewing code and promoting best practices.
- 6Collaborate with data science and product teams to align data infrastructure with business needs.
- 7Ship high-performance APIs and backend services using Django and Django REST Framework.
- 8Scale existing systems to handle growing data volumes, improving reliability and throughput.
Requirements7
- 15+ years of experience in backend development with Python and Django.
- 23+ years building and maintaining ETL pipelines with SQL and cloud data tools.
- 3Hands-on experience with AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent services.
- 4Strong knowledge of database design and optimization across PostgreSQL and Redshift.
- 5Proven ability to lead a team and deliver complex projects on time.
- 6Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- 7Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
