Director of Monolithic Technology and Specialty Products
Overview
You will lead the Monolithic Technology and Specialty Products team at HarbisonWalker International, driving new product development and supporting a full portfolio of refractory materials. You will manage a team of research scientists, engineers, and technicians, collaborating with cross-functional counterparts in Marketing, Product Management, Sales, and Manufacturing to align technical efforts with market needs. Your work will directly impact HWI's competitive edge in the refractory industry, with 30+ years of combined expertise in materials science and technical leadership. What You'll Do7
- 1Develop new and improved refractory products by partnering with Product Management, Marketing, and Sales to understand market needs and commercial goals.
- 2Provide technical support for existing materials and HWI product offerings, ensuring performance and reliability in the field.
- 3Maintain detailed materials roadmaps for all raw material categories, including technical specifications and a library of refractory materials technology.
- 4Lead internal and external fundamental research to advance HWI's understanding of key material technologies.
- 5Supervise, coach, and develop direct reports and shared technology teams, prioritizing safety and professional growth.
- 6Analyze competitive offerings and external technology developments to inform strategic decisions in refractory materials.
- 7Deliver technical presentations to external partners, showcasing HWI's expertise in Refractory Materials and Manufacturing Processes.
Requirements7
- 1B.S. degree in Engineering, Ceramics, Metallurgy, Chemical, Materials Science or related field; MBA preferred.
- 210+ years of experience in refractory offerings development with subject matter expertise in refractory technologies.
- 35+ years of experience supervising technical staff.
- 4Strong knowledge of scientific method, Refractory Raw Materials, Product Development, and Manufacturing Processes.
- 5Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- 6Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to speak on technical topics to external parties.
- 7Ability to travel approximately 35% domestically and internationally.
