
Data Protection Engineer, Backup & Disaster Recovery
Overview
You will own and operate enterprise backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery infrastructure for a large-scale environment. Managing Commvault, VMware, and Hyper-V, you will ensure reliable data protection across on-premises and cloud platforms. Collaborating with storage, network, and security teams, you will drive DR exercises and recovery operations. This contract role demands deep troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to system resilience.
What You'll Do8
- 1Design and implement backup strategies using Commvault for mixed workloads across VMware and Hyper-V.
- 2Troubleshoot failed backups and restores, resolving issues within AWS and Azure environments.
- 3Conduct quarterly disaster recovery exercises, documenting runbooks and recovery metrics.
- 4Build automation scripts to monitor backup health and alert on anomalies.
- 5Collaborate with storage teams to optimize SAN/NAS performance and capacity.
- 6Lead root cause analysis for data protection incidents, implementing preventive measures.
- 7Migrate legacy backup jobs to new Commvault infrastructure, ensuring zero data loss.
- 8Support replication and failover testing for critical production systems.
Requirements8
- 15+ years managing enterprise backup solutions with Commvault in production.
- 2Hands-on VMware and Hyper-V administration, including snapshot and replication.
- 3Strong knowledge of AWS and Azure backup services (e.g., AWS Backup, Azure Backup).
- 4Experience with SAN/NAS storage platforms (e.g., NetApp, Dell EMC).
- 5Proven track record executing DR exercises and failover tests.
- 6Scripting skills in PowerShell or Python to automate backup operations.
- 7Relevant certifications such as Commvault Certified Professional or VMware Certified Professional.
- 8Onsite availability in Washington, D.C. for the contract duration.
