Overview

You will lead a team of Data Labelers at Tesla in Phoenix, Arizona, owning the labeling of 3D image data for neural network training. Your team's accurate labels serve as ground truth for Tesla AI software, directly impacting customer-facing releases. You will coordinate with engineering and AI leadership, set annotation policies, and drive team performance to exceed targets. What You'll Do8

  • 1Conduct ongoing performance management: create coaching plans, track progress, run monthly 1:1s, and complete monthly analyst reports.
  • 2Evaluate daily performance in proprietary software to report summaries and team metrics, ensuring the team consistently exceeds expectations.
  • 3Work directly with engineers and Tesla AI leadership to own annotation policies, balancing technical and operational constraints.
  • 4Master project guidelines to communicate labeling concepts effectively, identify inefficiencies, and create documentation and training materials.
  • 5Allocate headcount between quality control and labeling, and prioritize job queues daily as directed by leadership.
  • 6Ensure documentation and daily planning for the team are accurate and consistently updated.
  • 7Enforce alignment with company policies and conduct bi-yearly performance reviews and monthly check-ins with Team Leads and Data Labelers.
  • 8Manage timekeeping accurately and support employee development initiatives.

Requirements6

  • 13+ years managing and motivating medium-sized teams performing manual operations.
  • 2Proven ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks by precedence, and meet sensitive deadlines.
  • 3Track record of executing and delivering on multiple competing projects with limited resources.
  • 4Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude for quickly learning systems with minimal training in ambiguous environments.
  • 5Effective communication and presentation skills to explain complex topics clearly and concisely.
  • 6Commitment to data accuracy and throughput, with attention to detail and appreciation for data integrity.
