Data Engineer, Privacy & Data Protection at TikTok
Overview
You will own the design and development of fault-tolerant data pipelines and storage systems for TikTok's Privacy and Data Protection Office (PDPO) Offense and Defense team. Your work supports high-throughput analytical workloads that identify and mitigate privacy risks across the platform, operating at massive scale. You will partner with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to integrate Spark, Hive, and Python solutions into production. This role stands out because you build the second line of defense for user privacy, translating risk objectives into detection capabilities that protect millions of users.
What You'll Do6
- 1Design and construct scalable data pipelines using Spark and Hive to handle high-throughput analytical workloads.
- 2Optimize and expand data models and warehouses built on HBase, Elasticsearch, and ClickHouse for low-latency serving.
- 3Investigate new big data tools and open-source frameworks, then integrate them into existing Hadoop environment.
- 4Implement fault-tolerant mechanisms and debug complex pipeline failures to maintain system reliability and SLA.
- 5Partner with data science and product teams to align data platform capabilities with core business goals.
- 6Drive seamless integrations with third-party data systems to enrich privacy monitoring capabilities.
Requirements7
- 11+ years designing and modeling data warehouses for business intelligence and analytics.
- 21+ years implementing production ETL workflows with Spark, Hive, and SQL Server.
- 31+ years developing production code in Python, Java, or SQL.
- 41+ years troubleshooting distributed data infrastructure and pipeline failures.
- 51+ years building scalable data services using HBase, Elasticsearch, or ClickHouse.
- 6Strong analytical thinking and ability to own ambiguous technical problems.
- 7Excellent communication and cross-team execution skills.
