Overview
Service, inspect, and repair overhead lifting equipment at customer sites across southeast Michigan as a Crane Field Technician. Run your day from a company vehicle, often visiting 2-3 industrial facilities. Troubleshoot 3-phase motors up to 480V, mechanical drive components, and control systems. What You'll Do9
- 1Perform OSHA- and ASME-compliant inspections on overhead cranes and hoists, documenting findings clearly.
- 2Troubleshoot and repair 3-phase motors, brakes, contactors, limit switches, VFDs, festoon systems, and radio controls up to 480V.
- 3Diagnose mechanical failures in gearboxes, drive wheels, couplings, wire rope, load chain, sheaves, and runway alignment.
- 4Read electrical schematics, ladder logic, and mechanical drawings to isolate faults efficiently.
- 5Execute preventive maintenance, load testing, and post-repair verification to ensure equipment reliability.
- 6Respond to emergency service calls, including occasional after-hours and weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
- 7Identify and document additional repair needs, recommending solutions for customer approval and quoting.
- 8Complete service reports, inspection records, time entries, and parts documentation via company mobile devices.
- 9Follow lockout/tagout, fall protection, and site-specific safety protocols without exception.
Requirements10
- 13+ years of hands-on industrial electrical and mechanical service experience; overhead crane and hoist experience preferred.
- 2Working knowledge of 3-phase motor and control circuits up to 480V, including safe troubleshooting of live systems.
- 3Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical prints.
- 4Comfort working at heights using aerial lifts, man baskets, catwalks, and crane runways in active industrial environments.
- 5Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record; company vehicle provided.
- 6Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing ladders, and working in varied conditions including heat, cold, and dust.
- 7Self-directed work habits and professional behavior when representing the company on customer sites.
- 8NCCCO, CIC, or equivalent inspector certification is a plus.
- 9OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- 10PLC troubleshooting experience and familiarity with Konecranes, Demag, R&M, Shaw-Box, Yale, Coffing, or Columbus McKinnon equipment are desirable.
