Overview

Construction Architect/Engineer lead on-site for VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System EHRM infrastructure upgrades. You will drive design review, construction administration, and commissioning across medical facility projects at scale, coordinating with VA stakeholders and the ISI team. You will shape schedules, budgets, and quality assurance while maintaining professional independence. This role blends architecture engineering with project leadership in a mission-critical environment.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Build architecture/engineering and construction-management support for EHRM infrastructure projects and related healthcare facilities
  • 2Review concepts, drawings, specs, scopes of work, and redesign submissions for completeness, accuracy, code compliance, constructability, and budget alignment
  • 3Interpret construction drawings and contract documents to guide field teams and ensure quality and safety
  • 4Review submittals, RFIs, proposed changes, and as-built docs and provide professional recommendations
  • 5Monitor construction quality, schedules, milestones, phasing, critical activities, budgets, and value in place
  • 6Support cost estimates, change-order analysis, pay-apps, claims analysis, and time-impact evaluation
  • 7Perform and document field inspections and identify deficiencies, risks, and code issues
  • 8Coordinate testing, commissioning, corrective actions, issue tracking, and project closeout
  • 9Support project meetings, risk management planning, reports, and VA project-management systems
  • 10Coordinate with VA Project Manager, COR, users, designers, contractors, and other stakeholders

Requirements10

  • 1Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited institution with minimum six years of design and construction experience focused on medical facilities or Fifteen years of directly related experience in lieu of the education requirement
  • 2Active professional architect or professional engineer license or equivalent seniority
  • 3OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification or ability to complete within 60 days of Notice to Proceed
  • 4US Citizenship and ability to obtain favorable National Agency Check (NACI) and VA PIV credential
  • 5Ability to work full-time onsite at the University Drive campus in Pittsburgh, PA and support ~30% off-business hours including nights
  • 6Experience managing facility-construction projects with supervision of engineering, design, and construction activities
  • 7Working knowledge of construction contracts, codes, permitting, budgeting, scheduling, materials methods, and construction processes
  • 8Ability to review scopes, submittals, proposed changes, and work in place; identify risks or violations and provide recommendations
  • 9Prior VA or federal healthcare design/construction experience preferred
  • 10Familiarity with VA Design Guides, VA specifications, and healthcare IT or low-voltage infrastructure is a plus
