
Compliance Specialist, Food Safety & Quality
Overview
Own the compliance program for a natural foods manufacturer, ensuring all materials and finished goods meet regulatory, food safety, and customer standards at scale across thousands of SKUs. You'll manage the Document Control Program and release ingredients and finished goods with full command of BRC GFSI, HACCP, and GMP principles. Partner with R&D, Purchasing, and Quality to maintain third-party certifications and audit readiness. This role offers a direct path to owning food safety strategy in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Review supplier and material documentation for compliance as part of the Supplier Approval Program, flagging gaps and driving corrections.
- 2Coordinate raw material and finished goods testing with third-party labs, tracking results, escalating out-of-spec outcomes, and placing holds in the system.
- 3Approve incoming COAs and generate finished goods COAs from quality records for customer communication.
- 4Maintain the Document Control Program: schedule reviews, update the Document Register, and distribute current revisions while removing obsolete documents.
- 5Drive CAPA investigations and implement solutions from internal and external audits to improve food safety and quality systems.
- 6Maintain Identity Preserved programs including Kosher, Organic, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO, Whole Grain, and Keto certifications.
- 7Support regulatory, customer, and third-party audits, executing preparation tasks and monitoring verification programs.
- 8Submit environmental monitoring samples and track results for FSMA compliance.
- 9Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to resolve technical or quality issues and document non-conformances.
- 10Lead ingredient hazard analysis tasks for the HACCP plan and escalate supplier non-conformances.
Requirements10
- 13+ years in a QC/QA role in the food processing industry, with a Bachelor's degree in food science, chemistry, biology, or chemical engineering.
- 2Expertise in HACCP, FDA regulations, GMP, GFSI, and FSMA compliance standards.
- 3Practical knowledge of food safety and labeling compliance, including FDA labeling requirements.
- 4Hands-on experience with HACCP and PCQI certifications.
- 5Technical competence in analytical chemistry or microbiology, including chemical and microbiological testing methods.
- 6Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and document management systems.
- 7Skills in conducting internal audits and managing physical and electronic records.
- 8Strong verbal and written communication, including technical writing for reports and documentation.
- 9Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a production environment with allergens.
- 10Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
