Overview
The Community Enhancement Codes Inspector leads proactive efforts to ensure compliance with property maintenance fire safety health and signage regulations across commercial and residential properties. This role impacts local residents and businesses while supporting citywide enhancement initiatives. Responsibilities include conducting independent inspections interpreting codes and resolving citizen complaints.
What You'll Do11
- 1Conduct independent field inspections of commercial and residential properties to verify compliance with property maintenance fire safety and related codes
- 2Explain and interpret municipal codes to obtain voluntary compliance from property owners
- 3Prepare violation notices and citations to enforce code requirements
- 4Perform evening weekend and holiday inspections as needed
- 5Input inspection data into computer systems and provide assistance with public education events
- 6Lead investigations into citizen complaints regarding property conditions and nuisances
- 7Remove illegal signs from public property and rights-of-way
- 8Assess commercial industrial areas for code compliance and advise stakeholders
- 9Maintain detailed case histories and communicate effectively with diverse groups
- 10Obtain International Code Council Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification within one year of employment
- 11Collaborate with code enforcement managers and senior staff to direct compliance efforts
Requirements8
- 1High school degree combined with two years of progressive work experience in property management housing code enforcement or building construction trades
- 2Valid driver's license and ability to obtain required certification
- 3Knowledge of City of Rockville Basic Property Maintenance Code Zoning Ordinances One and Two Family Dwelling Code rental facilities and landlord/tenant ordinances zoning ordinance amusement and vendor ordinances and sign regulations
- 4Strong understanding of code interpretation and ability to articulate findings clearly
- 5Experience handling public inquiries and referring complex matters appropriately
- 6Proven ability to build relationships with homeowners architects developers contractors and the public
- 7Tactful yet firm demeanor during contentious situations
- 8Excellent written and verbal communication skills
