Overview
You will own service, repair, and preventive maintenance for commercial HVAC/R systems across the Tri-State area, with a portfolio of 500+ rooftop units, chillers, and refrigeration systems. You will work within a union shop under Local 638B, solving complex mechanical issues and building long-term customer relationships. The role emphasizes troubleshooting, diagnostics, and system startups for a wide range of commercial equipment. What You'll Do8
- 1Perform preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment, catching failures before they occur.
- 2Diagnose, repair, and replace HVAC/R systems, including rooftop units, chillers, and cooling towers.
- 3Complete detailed service reports using a tablet, and generate repair recommendations or material requests for customers.
- 4Interact professionally with commercial customers to understand issues, explain root causes, and communicate proposed solutions.
- 5Execute equipment startups and commissioning for new construction projects, ensuring systems run per design specs.
- 6Coordinate daily with your assigned service coordinator to prioritize jobs and manage your route efficiently.
- 7Attend ongoing union training classes and technical education to stay current with evolving HVAC technology.
- 8Follow OSHA standards and company safety procedures on every job, maintaining a spotless safety record.
Requirements8
- 15+ years of commercial HVAC service experience with a strong focus on troubleshooting and repair.
- 2Hands-on experience with refrigeration systems, chillers, cooling towers, rooftop units, and gas-fired boilers.
- 3Technical knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and piping/plumbing in commercial settings.
- 4OSHA 30 certification and NYC SST card are preferred, with union sponsorship available for qualified candidates.
- 5High school diploma or equivalent, plus a valid driver's license.
- 6Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- 7Professional attitude and work ethic, with experience working independently and in team settings.
- 8Ability to complete physical tasks such as lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
