Overview
This role places an experienced coding leader at the intersection of healthcare and frontier AI. You'll evaluate AI-generated coding output for accuracy and compliance, directly helping train next-generation autonomous systems. What You'll Do9
- 1Direct professional fee and/or facility inpatient coding operations, keeping accuracy, productivity, and compliance with coding guidelines on track.
- 2Review AI-generated coding assignments—including ICD-10-CM/PCS diagnoses, procedure codes, CPT/HCPCS codes, and DRG assignments—for correctness and regulatory adherence.
- 3Run coding quality audits and deliver targeted feedback to both coding staff and AI systems to elevate performance.
- 4Track coding KPIs such as coder productivity, accuracy rates, unbilled accounts, and claim denials tied to coding errors.
- 5Manage coding workflow queues, distribute assignments, and ensure turnaround time targets are met.
- 6Enforce alignment with Official Coding Guidelines, CMS regulations, and payer-specific coding requirements.
- 7Provide ongoing coding education and compliance training to keep the team sharp and current.
- 8Partner with CDI, billing, and compliance teams to resolve revenue integrity issues stemming from coding.
- 9Annotate AI-generated coding outputs and provide structured feedback to improve AI training datasets.
Requirements10
- 1At least 5 years in medical coding, with 2+ years in a coding manager or HIM leadership role.
- 2Expert proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, and Official Coding Guidelines.
- 3Hands-on experience with professional fee coding and/or facility inpatient coding, including DRG assignment.
- 4Track record of conducting coding audits and building quality improvement initiatives.
- 5Working knowledge of coding software like 3M, Nuance, Optum360, or TruCode, plus EHR platforms.
- 6Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with a meticulous eye for spotting coding errors and compliance risks.
- 7Preferred: CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT certification.
- 8Preferred: Experience with computer-assisted coding (CAC) tools and NLP-based coding platforms.
- 9Preferred: Comfort evaluating AI-generated coding assignments and familiarity with AI coding tools.
- 10Preferred: Ability to present coding performance data and quality metrics to leadership.
