CNC Swiss Setup Operator, Star Swiss Lathe
Overview
You will own setup and operation of Star Swiss-type CNC machines, producing high-precision universal joints and drive shafts at Belden Universal's new facility near Chicago. You will join a tight-knit team of machinists where your input shapes daily production and quality. With rapid company growth, you gain clear paths to advancement. This role stands out by combining hands-on machining with process troubleshooting, all in a clean, climate-controlled shop just 12 miles west of downtown.
What You'll Do7
- 1Plan machining by studying blueprints, work orders, materials, and specs, and interpreting GD&T to set up Swiss machines for first runs.
- 2Set up Star CNC lathes by installing and adjusting tools, loading feed mechanisms, and verifying settings with first-run parts.
- 3Run production on CNC Swiss machines, monitoring drilling, grooving, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing within tight tolerances.
- 4Measure parts during runs and adjust tool offsets or reprogram to maintain specifications and catch malfunctions early.
- 5Troubleshoot machining issues, sharpen or replace worn tools, and modify G-Code to keep production flowing.
- 6Document production and quality logs per ISO and AS9100 standards, ensuring part traceability.
- 7Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and follow safety procedures to keep the cell running reliably.
Requirements7
- 12+ years setting up and operating Swiss-type CNC lathes, preferably Star machines.
- 21+ years of G-Code programming and editing on CNC controls.
- 3Proficient reading blueprints and applying GD&T principles to meet tight tolerances.
- 4Experience with tooling selection, offsets, and insert geometries for Swiss machining.
- 5Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO quality systems and documentation.
- 6Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for process and equipment issues.
- 7Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Salary Insight
