Overview

This remote role puts your clinical expertise to work on an AI safety project: you'll help build a clinician-informed benchmark for evaluating how AI companion chatbots respond to teens in mental health crises. The goal is to give AI developers and researchers a rigorous, real-world grounding for handling sensitive issues like suicide risk, therapeutic boundaries, and emotional dependency. You'll author realistic case scenarios, review AI-generated conversations, and shape evaluation rubrics alongside a leading AI research organisation. It's a unique chance to influence the responsible deployment of conversational AI in adolescent mental health.

What You'll Do5

  • 1Write fictionalised case studies based on your clinical experience with adolescents facing mental health challenges.
  • 2Check scenarios for clinical accuracy, age appropriateness, and ethical soundness.
  • 3Help design scoring rubrics that reflect clinical best practices for evaluating chatbot responses.
  • 4Review sample AI conversations and give expert feedback to help calibrate automated evaluation systems.
  • 5Advise on how to assess AI behaviour in key areas: suicide and self-harm risk recognition, safety planning, and crisis referral; avoiding impersonation of medical or therapeutic advice; and managing parasocial attachment or anthropomorphism.

Requirements5

  • 1A medical or research degree (MD, DO, PhD, PsyD) in psychiatry, psychology, or a related mental health field.
  • 2Deep clinical or research experience focused on children and adolescents.
  • 3Specialised knowledge in one or more of: suicide prevention, self-harm assessment, child and adolescent psychiatry, clinical child psychology, digital mental health, or evidence-based therapies like DBT and CBT.
  • 4Strong written communication and the ability to give structured, actionable clinical feedback.
  • 5Comfort working with fictional case scenarios and evaluating AI-generated dialogues. Preferred: crisis intervention experience, published research in adolescent mental health, experience developing clinical guidelines or assessment frameworks, and prior work with AI or digital health products.

Who Should Apply

You're a child and adolescent psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, or mental health researcher who cares deeply about how AI tools interact with vulnerable young people. You bring hands-on clinical knowledge, a sharp eye for realistic risk scenarios, and an interest in shaping responsible AI through evaluation and benchmarking. You're comfortable reviewing fictional cases and giving precise feedback that helps train or calibrate conversational AI systems.

Salary Insight

Pays $80–$150 per hour, with an expected commitment of roughly 10–15 hours per week.
