Overview

You will own individualized community-based support for adults with mental health and substance use disorders, promoting self-determination and recovery. As a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), you bring your lived experience to a multidisciplinary team, providing essential expertise that shapes person-centered care. You will work within the CST model, collaborating with clinical staff to integrate recovery values into treatment. This role stands out for its focus on peer expertise and community outreach, with schedule flexibility for evening and weekend hours.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Serve as an active CST member, participating in team meetings and contributing to the person-centered planning process.
  • 2Guide and encourage beneficiaries to take responsibility for and actively participate in their own recovery.
  • 3Assist beneficiaries with self-determination and decision-making, modeling recovery values and resilience.
  • 4Teach and promote self-advocacy, supporting beneficiaries in exercising their legal rights within the community.
  • 5Provide psychoeducation as indicated in the PCP and assist with crisis interventions.
  • 6Support behavioral and substance use disorder interventions, helping develop relapse prevention strategies.
  • 7Communicate beneficiary progress and strategy effectiveness to the Team Leader as outlined in the PCP.
  • 8Maintain accurate service documentation and submit billing information on time, ensuring comprehensive medical records.
  • 9Drive and travel extensively to community locations, arranging transportation for beneficiaries as needed.
  • 10Attend and actively participate in meetings and training, maintaining all required certifications.

Requirements8

  • 11 year of experience working with adults with a mental health diagnosis or substance use disorder.
  • 2Current CPSS certification through the State Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services.
  • 3Valid Driver's License and ability to drive extensively for community visits.
  • 4High School Diploma (required).
  • 5Lived experience and a personal recovery story related to mental illness or substance use.
  • 6Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • 7Strong communication and documentation skills, with attention to detail for billing and records.
  • 8Knowledge of recovery-oriented practices and trauma-informed care principles.
