Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Pediatric Rehab
Overview
You will deliver hands-on occupational therapy to children with complex medical, neurological, and behavioral needs in a specialty hospital. Under the supervision of a licensed OT, you will implement evidence-based interventions targeting sensory regulation, motor skills, and daily living tasks. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including PTs, SLPs, and physicians. This role offers exposure to a unique patient population and trauma-informed care practices.
What You'll Do10
- 1Implement evidence-based occupational therapy interventions for patients with neurological and behavioral conditions, supervised by a licensed OT
- 2Help patients build independence in self-care, play, and functional mobility through task-oriented training and motor learning
- 3Facilitate group and individual therapeutic activities in sensory spaces, therapy kitchens, and inpatient units
- 4Adapt interventions for patients with medical complexities such as seizure disorders and feeding challenges
- 5Monitor patient response and communicate progress to the supervising OT
- 6Collaborate with PTs, SLPs, and behavior analysts on interdisciplinary care plans
- 7Educate families on therapy goals and home programs
- 8Maintain accurate clinical documentation per regulatory standards
- 9Promote a safe, trauma-informed, patient-centered environment
- 10Complete de-escalation training within 30 days of hire
Requirements10
- 1Associate's degree from an ACOTE-accredited OTA program
- 26+ months experience in an acute care hospital or rehab setting
- 31 year pediatric or neurodevelopmental experience preferred
- 4Current NBCOT certification and Texas COTA license
- 5BLS certification through AHA or Red Cross valid for 6+ months
- 6De-escalation training completed within 30 days of hire
- 7Experience with sensory processing and modulation strategies
- 8Ability to implement individualized treatment plans and use adaptive equipment
- 9Confidence working with challenging behaviors, using trauma-informed approach
- 10Strong collaboration and communication skills in a multidisciplinary team
