CDL Owner-Operator, Refrigerated Freight & OTR Routes
Overview
Own your refrigerated trucking routes across the South East Corridor, dispatching from Charlotte with weekends at home. You'll run OTR loads, manage your own schedule, and handle temperature-sensitive freight for a contract carrier. This role pairs independence with dispatcher support, prioritizing FMCSA compliance and safe, on-time delivery.
What You'll Do7
- 1Drive tractor-trailers with refrigerated trailers on OTR routes, including flatbed and tanker configurations when assigned.
- 2Plan daily routes with GPS navigation to hit tight delivery windows across the corridor.
- 3Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques, following dock procedures for temperature-controlled cargo.
- 4Inspect trucks and trailers before and after trips, catching DOT compliance issues early.
- 5Log hours and cargo documents per DOT rules, keeping records audit-ready.
- 6Coordinate with dispatch to adjust schedules when weather or traffic delays threaten on-time delivery.
- 7Secure hazardous materials loads per HMR guidelines, confirming placards and paperwork.
Requirements6
- 1Valid CDL with a clean driving record; 2+ years tractor-trailer experience preferred.
- 21+ years running refrigerated or temperature-controlled freight in OTR environments.
- 3Working knowledge of FMCSA hours-of-service rules and DOT inspection criteria.
- 4Ability to handle hazardous materials with current Hazmat endorsement or willingness to obtain.
- 5Comfort with GPS fleet routing software and electronic logging devices.
- 6Manual transmission experience preferred; training available for strong candidates.
