Barback at Black Briar, West Loop Chicago
Overview
You will own the bar's operational engine at Black Briar, a high-volume tavern in Chicago's West Loop, keeping the station stocked, clean, and ready for every shift. You report to the bartenders and Beverage Manager, ensuring they never stop moving. This is a physical, fast-paced role that demands hustle and anticipation. You'll learn the craft from the ground up in a serious bar program, with BASSET and Illinois Food Handler certifications required.
What You'll Do8
- 1Stock and restock liquor, beer, wine, glassware, and supplies before and throughout service
- 2Prep bar mise en place, cutting garnishes, filling ice, and preparing juices and batches
- 3Keep the bar clean, dry, and organized, handling spills, glassware, and trash immediately
- 4Run glassware and barware to and from the dish station
- 5Anticipate bartender needs before they ask, changing kegs and restocking reach-ins
- 6Manage bar inventory levels during service to prevent shortages
- 7Support responsible-service standards and maintain a clean, safe bar
- 8Execute full open and close procedures, ensuring the bar is stocked and reset for the next shift
Requirements6
- 1Prior barback, bar, or restaurant experience preferred, but we will train the right person
- 2Genuine hustle and a one-step-ahead instinct in a fast, tight space
- 3Physically able to lift and carry kegs, cases, and ice repeatedly throughout a shift
- 4Physically able to stand and move for extended periods
- 5Reliable, punctual, and team-first
- 6Illinois Food Handler and BASSET certifications required, or obtained before start date
