Overview

As an AVID Tutor in Leander ISD, you own student success in grades 6-12 by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups and modeling academic strategies. What You'll Do10

  • 1Facilitate small-group tutorials using the AVID 10-Step Tutorial Process for middle and high school students.
  • 2Guide students in developing critical thinking, inquiry, and organizational skills during each session.
  • 3Support students in mastering rigorous course content across subjects like math, science, and English.
  • 4Evaluate student use of AVID binders, Focus Notes, and Tutorial Request Forms (TRFs) to track progress.
  • 5Model professionalism, college-going behavior, and a growth mindset in every interaction.
  • 6Build positive, respectful relationships with students and staff to foster a supportive environment.
  • 7Complete all required AVID tutor training and apply learned strategies in tutorials.
  • 8Communicate weekly with AVID coordinators and teachers on student progress and concerns.
  • 9Follow classroom routines and expectations set by the AVID teacher to maintain consistency.
  • 10Maintain prompt attendance, notifying teachers in advance of any absences or tardiness.

Requirements8

  • 1High school diploma or GED required.
  • 2Currently enrolled as a full-time college student (12 credit hours minimum) with a 2.5 GPA or higher, or a college graduate.
  • 3Familiarity with academic subjects at middle and high school levels to guide student learning.
  • 4Understanding of AVID methodologies and the 10-Step Tutorial Process (training provided).
  • 5Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills for group facilitation.
  • 6Ability to engage students in inquiry-based learning and collaborative group work.
  • 7Professional demeanor and ability to act as a positive role model for a college-going culture.
  • 8Physical ability to move around the classroom and campus, with mental focus for time management.
