Overview

Cochlear Ltd seeks a 4th-year audiology doctoral student for a contract externship in Denver, CO. The extern will split time between Rocky Mountain Ear Center and Cochlear Americas, owning diagnostic testing and device management across cochlear implants, hearing aids, and bone-anchored devices. This role sits within the Medical Affairs department, collaborating with clinical, research, and product teams. Externs gain hands-on patient care plus research and data analysis experience, contributing to presentations at the ACIA meeting. The position starts in May/June 2026, requiring commuting between two sites.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Perform diagnostic audiologic testing including pure tone audiometry, speech testing, tympanometry, OAEs, VNG, VEMP, ECoG, and ASSR.
  • 2Conduct clinical evaluations and activations for cochlear implants, hearing aids, and bone-anchored devices, and manage ongoing care during reprogramming and check appointments.
  • 3Prepare detailed proposals and presentations for the annual ACIA meeting, including literature reviews, methodology, and anticipated outcomes.
  • 4Enter data into a database management system and ensure accuracy for clinical studies.
  • 5Coordinate with study participants to schedule sessions, maintain a detailed schedule, and send reminders.
  • 6Score test materials and develop study materials for ongoing research projects.
  • 7Collaborate with product training teams to create educational content reflecting the latest innovations.
  • 8Collect and analyze clinical data, and prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • 9Provide technical support to clinicians and patients to ensure optimal care.

Requirements8

  • 1Enrollment in an accredited 4-year audiology doctoral program.
  • 2Ability to perform comprehensive audiologic evaluations on adults and pediatrics.
  • 3Experience with hearing aids and knowledge of hearing aid, cochlear implant, and BAHA fitting and use.
  • 4Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • 5Ability to work independently and collaborate across functions.
  • 6Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • 7Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
  • 8Willingness to commute between Rocky Mountain Ear Center and Cochlear Americas locations.
