AI Agent Engineer, Financial Fraud Detection
Overview
You will design and ship production AI agents for fraud and financial crime detection at Socratix AI, a YC S25 startup. These agents reason through real cases, gather evidence across banking systems, and produce decisions that stand up to regulators. You will collaborate directly with founders on product strategy and partner with large enterprises and fintechs. This role defines how agentic AI transforms financial crime operations, with zero bureaucracy and maximum ownership.
What You'll Do6
- 1Build agents end to end: LLM orchestration, tool use across MCP integrations, retrieval, and multi-agent workflows that automate real investigations.
- 2Own the layer that makes agents trustworthy: eval harnesses, guardrails, audit trails, and human-in-the-loop review.
- 3Ship fast and close to users: code in production your first week, with direct customer contact and your work catching actual fraud.
- 4Design and deliver production-grade AI agents, experimenting with new models, techniques, and tooling.
- 5Probe what the newest models can do and ship the parts that survive contact with real fraud cases.
- 6Shape roadmap and strategy with the founders, on a small team with maximum ownership.
Requirements7
- 12-4 years of engineering experience, or a portfolio that makes that line irrelevant.
- 2Shipped real things with LLMs: production systems, prototypes with users, or obsessive side projects.
- 3Deep engineering fundamentals: design, ship, debug, and operate a production system end to end, mostly Python on AWS.
- 4A systems thinker who reasons about data flow, failure modes, latency, cost, and what breaks at 10x.
- 5A 0 to 1 builder who thrives on ambiguity and speed.
- 6Curiosity about fintech, fraud, or building AI where the stakes are real and regulated.
- 7Prior experience in startups is a plus.
