Aerospace Quality Engineer, FAI & AS9100 Compliance
Overview
You will own supplier quality assurance for aerospace components, evaluating manufacturing capabilities and driving corrective actions to AS9100 and AS9102 standards. You will manage the full life-cycle of part quality from materials request to receipt, resolving non-conformances and ensuring supplier compliance across major programs. Your work directly impacts production reliability and supply chain performance for defense and aerospace customers. This role puts you at the center of supplier collaboration, using RCCA, CAPA, and FMEA to drive systemic improvements. You will be the on-site quality authority, interacting with design, production, and supplier teams to enforce quality standards.
What You'll Do9
- 1Build part quality evaluation plans from materials request through material receipt, ensuring full life-cycle compliance with AS9100 and AS9102.
- 2Evaluate supplier manufacturing capabilities and processes against documented commodity checklists and QMS special processes.
- 3Lead resolution and disposition of non-conforming materials, driving RCCA and CAPA to prevent recurrence.
- 4Perform statistical analysis (e.g., SPC) to assess product quality and determine responsibility for non-conforming materials.
- 5Participate in QMS audits, identifying process deficiencies and implementing corrective measures that meet reliability standards.
- 6Drive FMEA and process improvement initiatives to standardize manufacturing processes across suppliers.
- 7Inspect mechanical components and assemblies, applying GD&T, ANSI 14.5, and standard drawing conventions.
- 8Evaluate electronic assembly processes and inspections per IPC-610 and J-Std-1000, interpreting schematics and specifications.
- 9Coordinate with design, production, and supplier teams to ensure quality requirements are embedded from design through production stages.
Requirements10
- 13-5 years of quality engineering experience with LEAN Manufacturing application.
- 23-5 years applying FMEA, SPC, RCCA, and process control in a production environment.
- 32-3 years working knowledge of ISO9100 and AS9100 QMS processes in production and quality engineering.
- 42-3 years experience with aircraft parts and material conformity inspections.
- 53-5 years of AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) protocol experience.
- 63-5 years applying inspection methods and protocols, including ANSI 14.5 and GD&T.
- 73-5 years experience with mechanical engineering processes, standard drawing conventions, and interpreting drawings.
- 83-5 years experience with electronic assembly process and inspection per IPC-610 and J-Std-1000.
- 9Airframe experience required; AVMS electronic experience required.
- 10US citizenship required; valid driver's license and auto insurance required.
