Adaptive Special Education Teacher - K-5 (Atlanta, GA)
Overview
You will lead instruction for K-5 scholars on the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0) track, delivering measurable academic and functional growth. You will design and implement individualized education plans aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence Extended Content Standards. Working in partnership with related-service providers and families, you will build a classroom rooted in high expectations, urgency, and joy. This role stands out for its temp-to-perm structure, offering 60 days with Teachers On Demand before moving to full-time school employment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Plan and deliver standards-aligned K-5 instruction using the Georgia Standards of Excellence Extended Content Standards and GAA 2.0 track.
- 2Design individualized instruction that builds skills in communication, functional academics, independence, and life skills.
- 3Implement evidence-based practices such as systematic instruction, task analysis, discrete trial teaching, prompting hierarchies, AAC, and visual supports.
- 4Follow IEPs including present levels, measurable annual goals, service delivery, accommodations, modifications, and progress reporting.
- 5Administer the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA 2.0) with fidelity, preparing portfolios and performance tasks as required.
- 6Collect and analyze scholar data to drive instructional decisions and demonstrate progress toward IEP goals.
- 7Implement positive behavior supports and BIPs in partnership with the Exceptional Children team and families.
- 8Partner with related-service providers (speech, OT, PT, adapted PE) to integrate services across the school day.
- 9Manage sensory, communication, and physical accommodations (including AAC devices, adaptive seating, feeding protocols, toileting) with dignity.
- 10Build trust-based family relationships and support school-wide operations during non-instructional blocks.
Requirements10
- 1Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Adapted Curriculum, or related field.
- 2Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certificate in Special Education Adapted Curriculum (P-12) or eligibility through GaTAPP.
- 3Passing score on GACE Special Education Adapted Curriculum content assessment or willingness to obtain.
- 4Passing score on GACE Ethics for Teachers Assessment.
- 5Working knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and Georgia Rules for Students with Disabilities.
- 6Working knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence Extended Content and GAA 2.0.
- 7Valid Georgia Clearance Certificate and FBI fingerprint background check.
- 8Ability to lift and physically support scholars up to 50 lbs with team support.
- 9Commitment to the school's mission, values, and high expectations.
- 10Preferred: prior K-5 adapted curriculum teaching experience, GAA 2.0 administration, training in ABA, TEACCH, PECS, or AAC systems, and CPI certification.
