Taiwanese Mandarin Interpreter, Baseball Operations
Overview
You will interpret for a Taiwanese player in the Houston Astros organization, bridging communication on and off the field. This role supports the player's transition to U.S. baseball culture and everyday life, working with coaching, medical, and front office staff. You will travel with the player as needed and serve as a cultural liaison. This position offers a unique chance to impact player development directly within a Major League organization.
What You'll Do7
- 1Interpret English to Taiwanese Mandarin and Taiwanese Mandarin to English during practices, games, workouts, and meetings.
- 2Translate for medical appointments and team events, ensuring clear communication with all staff.
- 3Manage the player's daily itinerary, confirming attendance for all scheduled activities and appointments.
- 4Support the player's cultural transition to the U.S., including daily life and MLB norms.
- 5Travel with the player to assignment locations, adapting to changing schedules.
- 6Maintain strict confidentiality regarding player information and internal matters.
- 7Assist Baseball Operations and Player Development staff with additional tasks as needed.
Requirements9
- 1Fluency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken).
- 2Valid Visa or U.S. work authorization, plus passport for international travel.
- 3Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with players, coaches, and front office personnel.
- 4High professionalism, cultural awareness, and discretion in all interactions.
- 5Previous experience or solid knowledge of baseball, including rules and game flow.
- 6Adaptability to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- 7Preferred: Fluency in Taiwanese Mandarin.
- 8Preferred: Familiarity with Minor League Baseball systems.
- 9Preferred: Prior interpretation experience.
